Live from RIM's conference: Enterprise mobile application uptake

At RIM's conference in Orlando I've been interested in trying to learn more about enterprise uptake of applications beyond email. For the second year in a row RIM claims 70% of BES installations enable applications on top of email.

However, when you talk to operators, the ISVs on the showroom floor, and IT managers it seems like still a very early days picture where the applications that are enabled are not managed or tracked. The "mobilization" of enterprise (and government) seems to be highly uneven with some very large advanced examples and a very, very long tail of IT admins enabling home-grown capabilities without actually integrating them into policies, procedures, and workflow processes.

As an example here is an image of the first session RIM held on enterprise application enablement beyond email: It was standing room only.

Yet, as soon as the presenter began walking through the details of server-side enablement there was a stampede for the door. What does this (and many other similar anecdotes) say about enterprise mobility today?
